How To Deep Clean Your Home

If you are selling your house you need to make sure that it is impeccably clean whilst people view it and once you sell it on. Professional cleaning companies can be expensive, especially considering all the other costs associated with moving house so before you hire out a professional cleaner, use a bit of elbow-grease and know-how to do the majority of the work yourself.

Should I hire a steamer?

A steamer uses steam under pressure to remove hard to clean dirt off a surface. It is a great method of cleaning carpet and upholstery but you should take care on some materials, such as wool, as they may shrink. You can hire a steamer and use it yourself to freshen up your carpets and curtains although it is not suitable for machine oil stains and won’t clean extremely dirty surfaces.

Should I hire a pressure washer?

For outside dirt and grime build up you could hire and use a pressure washer. This is good for stubborn build up on external walls but you should be extremely careful when using a pressure washer, don’t use more pressure than you need and be careful when working near glass. Pressure washers aren’t necessarily a quick-fix clean and doing the work yourself will take time but it might be the answer if soaking in detergent did not remove dirt on its own.

How can I deep clean my bathroom?

Limescale and mould can build up in your bathroom; remove this regularly to avoid a build up that would be costly to remove later. Descaling a toilet is best done with phosphoric or citric acid, invest in a proper descaler and use it in the bathroom, around taps and in between tiles to remove dirt and limescale and leave the room looking sparkling clean. In particularly dirty areas, for example tile grout, you can leave the descaler to work overnight to remove build up and mould stains. If you have marble tiles in your bathroom use a neutral detergent as heavy acid and alkali will damage the surface.

How can I deep clean my kitchen?

The oven is perhaps the place in the kitchen subject to the biggest build up of dirt and grease. To clean an oven properly takes hard-work and patience: use a caustic soda solution and leave it on the oven’s surfaces for half an hour before rinsing off. You can remove fats with a washing-up liquid solution before rinsing with clean water. Oven cleaning is best done when the oven is still slightly warm. When cleaning your kitchen don’t forget often neglected areas such as extractor fan blades and blinds as these will make an otherwise clean room look instantly dirty if neglected.

How can I find a cheap professional cleaner?

Sometimes hiring a professional cleaner is a lot easier and more effective than trying to do the work yourself, especially if specialist cleaning equipment is required. If you do need a professional cleaner for your property then make sure you search around and get different quotes. Ask smart questions about what they charge and what happens if a job takes longer than they initially expected. Make sure that when you are invoiced they give you a thorough break down of all the work that they have done and inspect it fully to make sure you satisfied before paying in full.

The cleanliness of a house makes a big difference to people’s first impressions and can therefore improve the presentation of your property and help you get the price that you want for it. You can do a lot of the cleaning work yourself with a bit of time and energy, don’t cut corners and take a fresh, critical look at each room to spot areas that are neglected in every day cleaning.
