PROPERTY ADVICE BLOG - Advertise Your Property - How to sell your home?

House-Money-2There are lots of different ways of marketing your property - from auctions to YouTube, we guide you through the options using a traditional estate agent has it's advantages (they will advertise the property for you, arrange viewings etc) but it does come at a high cost - many agents now charge as much as 2% of the sale price which often adds up to many thousands of pounds.

So more and more people are choosing to bypass traditional estate agents and sell their properties themselves using the growing number of available online services. One such service was launched by Tesco, Britain’s largest supermarket chain. Their website, www.tescopropertymarket.com, allows owners to market properties for an introductory price of £199.

Not surprisingly, the agents are not happy about what many see as an attempt to do them out of business. Within days of the launch, Spicerhaart, one of the largest groups of agents in the southeast, pulled all its advertising from Tesco’s website. It was followed swiftly by Fish4homes, a property portal that would have provided a large slice of its listings. The portal claimed to have been “misled” by the nature of Tesco’s strategy. The supermarket retorted that the site had been “put under pressure from some estate agents who do not understand our offer”.

Before rushing to sign with Tesco, though, it is worth considering all the ways of selling your property.
